Super Save Food & Discount Beverage in Deland

Last inspected:

223 E Voorhis Ave, Deland, FL 32724
Overview

Super Save Food & Discount Beverage in DeLand is a convenience store that holds a limited food service permit. The facility has undergone three inspections since April 2026, with escalating violations and multiple stop orders issued.

On August 12, 2026, inspectors identified 37 violations during a focused inspection following permit renewal failure. Significant findings included rodent droppings on multiple shelves, inside cabinets, and throughout the walk-in cooler; live flying insects in retail and backroom areas; pre-packaged beverages stored on floors; raw wood shelving in the walk-in cooler; and a handwash sink in disrepair. Stop-use orders were issued for the handwash sink and a probe thermometer that could not be provided. Stop-sale orders were issued for ice packaged on-site with missing manufacturer information, and for hemp and hemp extract products with improper labeling. Violations included failure to timely renew the food permit, missing microbial testing for ice, inadequate warewashing drainboards, pest control failures, improper food storage, and deficiencies in employee training on foodborne illness reporting.

On August 14, 2026, a focused inspection resulted in the owner voluntarily discarding all hemp products under stop-sale orders. Three kratom-related violations were also noted: missing age restriction signage for kratom and hemp products, and operating beyond the scope of the food permit by selling hemp extract products without proper hemp establishment permitting.

On September 1, 2026, inspectors conducted a re-inspection and found 14 violations. A stop-use order placed on ice bagging equipment and ice from the ice machine on August 12 was broken—the ice was found being used as a coolant for beverages. Red rust buildup was observed on metal surfaces inside the ice machine, which remained under stop-use order. Additional violations included failed permit renewal, pre-packaged beverages still stored on floors, continued warewashing deficiencies, walk-in cooler door gasket damage, soil and debris accumulation, damaged corn meal and pickled sausage (voluntarily discarded), employee failure to acknowledge foodborne illness reporting responsibilities, and lack of written cleanup procedures for vomit and diarrhea. Multiple stop-use orders for equipment and pest contamination areas were issued, with stop-sale orders issued for adulterated corn meal and pickled sausage, and for hemp products with missing batch information website addresses and improper labeling. The most recent inspection on September 1, 2026 concluded with the facility requiring corrected areas to be cleaned and sanitized and a pest management control program to be implemented.
