Editorial Standards
Our Principles
FloridaFoodSafety.org is committed to presenting public health data with accuracy, fairness, and context. These standards govern all content on the site.
Accuracy
- All inspection data is sourced directly from Florida DBPR and FDACS official records
- We do not alter, editorialize, or selectively present violation data
- Every facility page cites the specific government data source
- Statistics (violation counts, closure counts, averages) are computed from complete inspection records, not samples
- When errors are identified, we correct them promptly and transparently
Fairness
- Every facility is treated equally. We do not accept payment from restaurants for favorable coverage or removal of records
- All facility pages include a disclaimer that conditions may have changed since the last inspection
- We provide context through county averages so readers can judge a facility's record relative to its peers
- Prior business names are disclosed so ownership and operational changes are transparent
Transparency
- Our methodology page fully discloses how data is collected, processed, and presented
- Our data sources page identifies every government agency and dataset we use
- AI-generated summaries are clearly labeled as such
- Every facility page shows the date of last government action and last page update
- Pages for facilities with minimal data receive a noindex directive rather than being presented as authoritative
Independence
- FloridaFoodSafety.org is editorially independent
- We have no financial relationship with any restaurant, food service chain, or inspection company
- Advertising does not influence which facilities are covered or how data is presented
- Coverage decisions are based on data significance (violations, closures, fines) not commercial interest
Human Review
All content is reviewed by Christopher F. Nesbitt, Sr., who brings legal training (Boston University Paralegal Studies), emergency medical certification (Nationally Registered EMT), and fire safety expertise (Pro Board Certified Fire Instructor I) to the editorial review process.
