ORLANDO, FL. Spicy Girl at 5748 International Drive drew 12 high-severity violations during the week of August 2, more than any other facility inspected in Orlando, with inspectors citing the restaurant for sourcing food from unapproved or unknown suppliers, failing to maintain any employee health policy, and documenting that workers were not reporting symptoms of illness before handling food.

The week's inspections covered 15 facilities across Orange County. All 15 drew at least one high-severity citation. Together they produced violations touching nearly every major category of food safety failure: illness reporting, handwashing, cooking temperatures, chemical storage, shellfish traceability, and management oversight.

Spicy Girl's violations went beyond volume. Inspectors found the person in charge was not present or not performing duties, and cited the restaurant for improper handwashing technique, improperly cleaned food contact surfaces, and misuse of time as a public health control. The food-from-unapproved-sources citation is among the most serious a facility can receive, because it means some portion of what was being served to customers had bypassed federal safety inspections entirely.

Red Lobster at 5936 International Drive drew 10 high-severity violations, including a failure to follow parasite destruction procedures for fish, food not cooked to required minimum temperatures, and inadequate shell stock identification records. The restaurant also lacked a consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods, meaning customers with compromised immune systems had no written notice that certain dishes carried elevated risk.

Sickies Burgers and Brews at 11701 International Drive matched Red Lobster's count at 10 high-severity violations. Inspectors cited the restaurant for food from unapproved sources, parasite destruction failures, food not cooked to minimum temperature, and no consumer advisory. Like Spicy Girl, Sickies also had no employee health policy and documented workers not reporting illness symptoms.

White Wolf Cafe and Bar at 1829 N Orange Avenue drew 9 high-severity violations, including inadequate handwashing by food employees, food from unapproved sources, improperly stored chemicals, and inadequate shell stock records. Inspectors also cited employees for not reporting illness symptoms and for improper handwashing technique, meaning the facility had failures at both the infrastructure and practice levels of hand hygiene.

Persis Indian Grill at 5931 International Drive also reached 9 high-severity violations. The citation list included no employee health policy, improperly stored chemicals, shellfish traceability failures, food contact surfaces not properly cleaned, and misuse of time as a public health control.

Miller's Orlando Ale House at 6141 S Semoran Boulevard drew 8 high-severity violations, with inspectors noting the person in charge was not present or not performing duties, inadequate handwashing facilities, improper handwashing technique, food not cooked to required temperature, and toxic substances improperly stored. The absence of a functioning manager on duty, combined with physical handwashing infrastructure that inspectors deemed inadequate, creates conditions where other violations are predictable.

Juicy Crab at 7308 International Drive drew 8 high-severity violations including dual chemical storage citations: toxic chemicals improperly stored or labeled, and toxic substances improperly identified, stored, or used. Inspectors also cited the restaurant for inadequate shell stock identification and no consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods.

Wing Shack at 4650 Michigan Street drew 8 high-severity violations including food in poor condition or adulterated, shellfish traceability failures, and the same dual chemical storage violations found at Juicy Crab.

China Brothers at 3020 Lamberton Boulevard drew 8 high-severity violations, with inspectors citing parasite destruction failures, food from unapproved sources, and time as a public health control not properly used, in addition to shellfish traceability and handwashing failures.

Dixie Belles Cafe at 7125 S Orange Avenue drew 8 high-severity violations, including no allergen awareness demonstrated, a citation that is distinct from the rest of this week's findings. Inspectors also cited the cafe for no employee health policy, inadequate handwashing by food employees, and improperly stored chemicals.

Pollos a la Brasa Pio Pio at 2259 S Semoran Boulevard drew 8 high-severity violations including food in poor condition or adulterated, food from unapproved sources, and no consumer advisory for raw or undercooked items.

Sazoncito Latin Food at 4542 S Semoran Boulevard drew 6 high-severity violations, including improper sewage or wastewater disposal at the intermediate level. Food from unapproved sources and improperly stored chemicals were also cited.

Pub Orlando at 9101 International Drive drew 4 high-severity violations, including toxic chemicals improperly stored and required procedures for specialized processes not followed. Inspectors also cited improper sewage or wastewater disposal.

Juicy Bites at 12125 Apopka Vineland Road and Hooters at 8510 Palm Parkway each drew a single high-severity violation, both for food contact surfaces not properly cleaned or sanitized.

What These Violations Mean

The most common high-severity citation this week, appearing at more than a dozen facilities, was food contact surfaces not properly cleaned or sanitized. Every surface that touches food, cutting boards, prep tables, slicers, is a transfer point. When those surfaces carry residue from a prior use, bacteria from raw chicken or raw seafood can move directly onto the next item prepared. Red Lobster, Sickies Burgers and Brews, White Wolf Cafe and Bar, and ten other facilities received this citation in the same seven-day window.

The illness reporting and employee health policy failures are a different category of risk. At Spicy Girl, Sickies Burgers and Brews, Pollos a la Brasa Pio Pio, and Dixie Belles Cafe, inspectors found both no written employee health policy and workers not reporting symptoms of illness. These two violations together mean there was no written instruction telling employees to stay home when sick, and no one was staying home. Norovirus, the leading cause of foodborne illness outbreaks in restaurants, spreads almost exclusively through infected food handlers.

The food-from-unapproved-sources citations at Spicy Girl, Sickies Burgers and Brews, White Wolf Cafe and Bar, Pollos a la Brasa Pio Pio, Sazoncito Latin Food, and China Brothers carry a specific traceability consequence. If a customer becomes ill after eating at one of these restaurants, investigators cannot trace the food back through a regulated supply chain. There is no lot number, no distributor record, no federal inspection stamp. The outbreak investigation stops at the kitchen door.

Dixie Belles Cafe's allergen awareness citation stands apart from everything else documented this week. Food allergies send 30,000 people to emergency rooms in the United States each year. When a facility cannot demonstrate that staff understand allergen risks, customers with peanut, tree nut, shellfish, or other allergies are ordering without a meaningful safety net.

The Longer Record

Wing Shack on Michigan Street has the longest inspection history of any facility cited this week, with 40 prior inspections on record. This week's 8 high-severity violations, including food in poor condition, dual chemical storage failures, and shellfish traceability gaps, come after a record that spans four decades of visits. That volume of prior inspections did not produce compliance on any of those categories.

Pub Orlando on International Drive and Dixie Belles Cafe on S Orange Avenue each have 38 prior inspections on record. Sazoncito Latin Food has 36. Juicy Crab has 34. Red Lobster and Miller's Orlando Ale House and China Brothers each have 31. These are not new restaurants encountering food safety requirements for the first time.

Sickies Burgers and Brews has 13 prior inspections and drew 10 high-severity violations this week, the second-highest count of any facility. That is a significant accumulation of serious citations for a location still early in its inspection history. Persis Indian Grill has 18 prior inspections and drew 9 high-severity violations.

Spicy Girl, the week's worst performer at 12 high-severity violations, has 22 prior inspections on record. The food-from-unapproved-sources citation and the absence of any employee health policy are not the kind of violations that appear by accident or oversight. They require an affirmative decision not to comply. Whether this week's inspection produces a follow-up visit, and what inspectors find when they return, is not yet reflected in the public record.
