3Triple-Pest Closures

Thirty-seven Florida restaurants were emergency-closed the week of March 23, led by triple pest infestations at an Orlando takeout with 709 violations on record and a Palm Beach Gardens pancake house closed for the third time.

  • China Hot Express LLC in Orlando was shut down for rodent, roach, and fly activity — its fourth closure across 45 inspections and 709 total violations on record.
  • Original Pancake House in Palm Beach Gardens was closed for the third time, also for rodent, roach, and fly activity, accumulating 239 violations across 41 inspections.
  • Thirteen of the 37 closures were for roach activity alone, with Orlando and Pinellas Park each recording two closures and six other cities appearing on the list.

FLORIDA. An Orlando takeout restaurant with four emergency closures and 709 violations accumulated across 45 state inspections was shut down again last week, this time for simultaneous rodent, roach, and fly activity — a combination that state records show is among the most serious findings inspectors document.

China Hot Express LLC, on the inspection record under that name in Orlando, was closed March 24. A callback inspection followed the next day, March 25. The facility's history on record at FloridaFoodSafety.org shows 709 total violations across those 45 inspections — a figure that places it among the most-cited restaurants in the state this year. This was its fourth closure.

Two days later, in Palm Beach Gardens, Original Pancake House was shut down for the same triple combination: Rodent, Roach & Fly activity. It was that restaurant's third closure. State records show 239 violations across 41 inspections. Inspectors returned for a callback on March 27.

Three closures this week carried that triple-pest designation. The third was Achsah's Jamaican Restaurant Bakery in Fort Lauderdale, closed March 24. Its inspection history shows 127 violations across 28 inspections and one prior closure. A callback inspection was conducted March 27.

The week's 37 emergency closures stretched across at least 15 cities. Roach activity was the single most common closure reason, accounting for 13 of the 37 shutdowns. Rodent activity drove six more. Four restaurants were closed for fly activity alone, and three others had no potable water on the premises when inspectors arrived.

Orlando led all cities with four closures. Beyond China Hot Express, inspectors shut down Licking Orlando on March 23 for fly activity, El Pulgarcito Grill and Bar LLC on March 24 for roach and rodent activity, and Urban Cave Ars Gates 1-9 at what appears to be an airport concession on March 27, that closure for no warewashing facilities.

In Sebring, Cang Tong was closed March 25 for roach and rodent activity. The restaurant's record shows 535 violations across 46 inspections and four prior closures — matching China Hot Express for the most closures among any facility in this week's data. A callback inspection was not conducted until April 9.

Pinellas Park recorded two closures. Café Bich NGA, closed March 23 for rodent and fly activity, carries 495 violations across 34 inspections and two prior closures on record. Its callback came March 30. The same city's Cheddars was shut down March 24 for a sewage backup.

Jacksonville contributed two closures as well. El Sol De Mexico was closed March 25 for roach activity. Sharks Fish And Chicken Of Duval, also in Jacksonville, was shut the same day for rodent activity. In Palatka, Mr. Jaybee's Wings N Things was closed March 26 for a combination of sewage issue and rodent activity.

In Ocala, Huddle House was shut March 24 for roach and fly activity. A second Ocala closure followed March 26, when a restaurant operating as Rolys was shut down for unlicensed activity — meaning inspectors found it operating without a valid license, a distinct category from pest or sanitation violations.

Fort Myers recorded two closures. Taqueria Gonzalez was shut March 26 for roach activity. Jireh Mana Happy Place followed March 27, closed for no potable water. Tampa saw two closures as well: Tasty Mediterranean Grill on March 24 for roach activity, and Deaverdura on March 27, also for no potable water.

Among the week's other closures, Sopotnicks Cabbage Patch in New Smyrna Beach was shut March 25 for rodent activity, and Longwood Country Kitchen in Longwood was closed the same day for roach activity.

Cang Tong in Sebring, with four closures and 535 violations on record, did not receive its callback inspection for two weeks after the March 25 shutdown.
