ORLANDO, FL. Two Orlando restaurants were emergency-closed by state inspectors during the week of August 25, 2026, both for pest activity, while fifteen others drew high-severity violations ranging from food sourced from unapproved suppliers to employees working without any illness reporting policy in place.

Loading Zone, a bar at 24 E Washington St in downtown Orlando, was ordered closed on August 28 after inspectors documented rodent activity on the premises. Two days earlier, on August 26, Hocca at 8001 S Orange Blossom Trail Suite 1500 was shut down for a combination of rodent and fly activity.

Both closures came mid-week, during active service hours.

The Violations

The week's highest violation count belonged to Hilton Garden Inn Orlando I-4 Millenia Blvd Mall at 5058 Millenia Place Dr, which drew 11 high-severity citations. Among them: no person in charge present or performing duties, employees not reporting illness symptoms, inadequate handwashing by food employees, inadequate handwashing facilities, improper handwashing technique, food in poor condition or adulterated, parasite destruction procedures not followed, and food not cooked to required minimum temperature.

That is a hotel restaurant where inspectors found, in a single visit, every layer of food safety infrastructure either absent or failing simultaneously.

Hyderabad Cafe at 8695 Fenton St Suite 130 recorded 10 high-severity violations. Inspectors cited the restaurant for obtaining food from unapproved or unknown sources, failing to follow parasite destruction procedures, improperly cleaned food contact surfaces, food not cooked to required temperature, and misuse of time as a public health control, in addition to no employee health policy and improper handwashing technique.

Food from unapproved sources is among the most serious findings on that list. It means the supply chain for at least some ingredients bypassed federal inspection entirely.

Juicy Crab at 296 E Michigan St drew 9 high-severity violations, including no person in charge, no employee health policy, employees not reporting illness symptoms, inadequate shell stock identification records, parasite destruction failures, improperly cleaned food contact surfaces, misuse of time as a public health control, and no consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods. A seafood restaurant serving shellfish without traceability records and without a consumer advisory for raw items is a specific and layered problem.

Shakai at 43 E Pine St also reached 9 high-severity violations. The citations included food from unapproved or unknown sources, inadequate shell stock identification, improperly cleaned food contact surfaces, misuse of time as a public health control, no consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods, and toxic chemicals improperly stored or labeled. That last citation, chemicals stored improperly near food, appeared at multiple facilities this week.

Sodough Square at 12226 Corporate Blvd recorded 9 high-severity violations as well, including no person in charge, no employee health policy, employees not reporting illness symptoms, inadequate handwashing, improper handwashing technique, parasite destruction failures, improperly cleaned food contact surfaces, and food not cooked to required temperature.

Amura Japanese Gourmet at 7786 W Sand Lake Rd drew 9 high-severity violations: no person in charge, employees not reporting illness symptoms, improper handwashing technique, inadequate shell stock identification, improperly cleaned food contact surfaces, misuse of time as a public health control, no consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods, and toxic chemicals improperly stored or labeled.

Las Cazuelas Mexican Restaurant at 7371 Lake Underhill Rd recorded 8 high-severity violations, including no person in charge, employees not reporting illness symptoms, improper handwashing technique, improperly cleaned food contact surfaces, no consumer advisory, toxic chemicals improperly stored, toxic substances improperly identified or used, and no allergen awareness demonstrated. The allergen citation is notable. Food allergies affect tens of millions of Americans, and a restaurant with no demonstrated allergen awareness is a direct risk to customers who depend on staff knowledge to stay safe.

Winghouse Bar and Grill at 3789 S Kirkman Rd drew 8 high-severity violations, including no person in charge, no employee health policy, improperly cleaned food contact surfaces, food not cooked to required temperature, no consumer advisory, toxic chemicals improperly stored, toxic substances improperly identified or used, and required procedures for specialized processes not followed.

Sushi99 Sushi and Grill at 1024 N Avalon Park Blvd Suite 101 recorded 8 high-severity violations: no employee health policy, employees not reporting illness symptoms, improper handwashing technique, food from unapproved or unknown sources, improperly cleaned food contact surfaces, food not cooked to required temperature, misuse of time as a public health control, and no consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods.

Charleys Philly Steaks at 2567 S Kirkman Rd drew 8 high-severity violations as well, including employees not reporting illness symptoms, improper handwashing technique, food from unapproved or unknown sources, food in poor condition or adulterated, inadequate shell stock identification, improperly cleaned food contact surfaces, food not cooked to required temperature, and toxic substances improperly identified or used. Shell stock traceability violations at a cheesesteak chain are worth noting: it means shellfish on the menu arrived without the documentation that would allow health officials to trace an outbreak back to its harvest source.

Talkin Tacos at 3123 Orange Ave Suite 106 recorded 8 high-severity violations: no person in charge, employees not reporting illness symptoms, improper handwashing technique, food from unapproved or unknown sources, inadequate shell stock identification, improperly cleaned food contact surfaces, food not cooked to required temperature, and misuse of time as a public health control.

Hungry Howie's at 11774 E Colonial Dr drew 6 high-severity violations, including no employee health policy, parasite destruction failures, improperly cleaned food contact surfaces, food not cooked to required temperature, no consumer advisory, and toxic chemicals improperly stored or labeled.

Mama Lau and OC LLC at 5038 W Colonial Dr recorded 3 high-severity violations: no employee health policy, improper handwashing technique, and no consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods.

ANF Gyro Location 2 at 5507 W Colonial Dr drew 2 high-severity violations, improperly cleaned food contact surfaces and misuse of time as a public health control, plus an intermediate citation for improper sewage or wastewater disposal.

Outpost Neighborhood Tavern at 227 N Eola Dr recorded 3 high-severity violations: food not cooked to required temperature, no consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods, and toxic chemicals improperly stored or labeled. The tavern also drew an intermediate citation for improper sewage or wastewater disposal, the same intermediate finding logged at ANF Gyro this week.

What These Violations Mean

The most common high-severity violation across this week's inspections was the absence of an employee illness reporting policy, cited at Hyderabad Cafe, Juicy Crab, Sodough Square, Winghouse Bar and Grill, Sushi99, Hungry Howie's, Mama Lau and OC, and others. This is not a paperwork problem. Food workers are the single largest transmission vector for Norovirus, which causes 20 million illnesses in the United States each year. Without a written policy, there is no mechanism to keep a sick employee off the line.

Closely related is the "employees not reporting illness symptoms" citation, which appeared at the Hilton Garden Inn, Juicy Crab, Sodough Square, Amura Japanese Gourmet, Las Cazuelas, Sushi99, Charleys Philly Steaks, and Talkin Tacos. The distinction matters: the first violation means no policy exists; the second means the policy exists or not, but employees are not following it regardless. Both lead to the same outcome.

Food from unapproved or unknown sources was cited at Hyderabad Cafe, Shakai, Sushi99, Charleys Philly Steaks, and Talkin Tacos. When food enters a kitchen without passing through an inspected supply chain, there is no traceability if customers get sick. Health officials investigating an outbreak need to know where food came from, lot numbers, harvest dates, and distributor records. Unapproved sourcing eliminates that trail entirely.

Toxic chemicals improperly stored or labeled appeared at Shakai, Amura Japanese Gourmet, Las Cazuelas, Winghouse Bar and Grill, Hungry Howie's, and Outpost Neighborhood Tavern. Chemicals stored near food or in unlabeled containers create a direct poisoning risk, not a theoretical one. A container of sanitizer mistaken for a cooking ingredient, or a cleaning chemical stored above an uncovered prep surface, can send customers to an emergency room the same day.

The Longer Record

Winghouse Bar and Grill on S Kirkman Rd carries 53 prior inspections on record, the longest history of any facility in this week's data. Its 8 high-severity citations this week, including no person in charge and food not cooked to required temperature, are not early-stage compliance failures at a new restaurant finding its footing. They are recurring categories at an operation with more than five decades of inspection history in the state's files.

Las Cazuelas Mexican Restaurant on Lake Underhill Rd has 35 prior inspections on record and drew 8 high-severity violations this week, including no allergen awareness and dual toxic substance citations. Mama Lau and OC LLC on W Colonial Dr has 34 prior inspections on record; its 3 high-severity violations this week are fewer in number but come from a restaurant that has been inspected more than three dozen times.

Amura Japanese Gourmet on W Sand Lake Rd and Sushi99 Sushi and Grill on N Avalon Park Blvd each carry 31 prior inspections on record, and both drew 8 or 9 high-severity violations this week. Shakai on E Pine St has 28 prior inspections and recorded 9 high-severity citations, including food from unapproved sources and improperly stored toxic chemicals.

At the other end of the history spectrum, Hyderabad Cafe on Fenton St has only 9 prior inspections on record and already drew 10 high-severity violations in a single visit. The Hilton Garden Inn on Millenia Place Dr has 11 prior inspections and recorded the week's highest total at 11 high-severity citations. Neither location has had the time to accumulate a long record, but both are already producing violation counts that exceed facilities with three times as many inspections behind them.

Juicy Crab on E Michigan St, with 22 prior inspections, was cited for inadequate shell stock identification records this week. That same violation appeared at Shakai, Charleys Philly Steaks, Amura Japanese Gourmet, and Talkin Tacos, five separate seafood-serving operations in a single week without documentation that would allow a shellfish outbreak to be traced to its source.
