ORLANDO, FL. Baires Grill on International Drive and Nikki's Place on West Carter Street each drew 10 high-severity violations during the week of April 20, the highest totals among 15 Orlando-area restaurants cited for serious food safety failures between April 20 and April 26, 2026.

At Baires Grill, inspectors documented food from unapproved or unknown sources, parasite destruction procedures not followed, food not cooked to required minimum temperature, and no written employee health policy. The restaurant also had no time-as-a-public-health-control procedures in place and food contact surfaces that were not properly cleaned or sanitized. Baires Grill has only two prior inspections on record, making this week's 10-count one of the heaviest violation tallies the location has produced.

Nikki's Place produced a different but equally serious combination. They also flagged food contact surfaces not properly cleaned and time-as-a-public-health-control not properly used. Nikki's Place has 22 prior inspections on record.

China Garden on West Colonial Drive drew nine high-severity violations, including food from unapproved sources, inadequate shellfish identification records, toxic chemicals improperly stored or labeled, no consumer advisory, improper handwashing technique, and employees not reporting illness symptoms. The restaurant also had no written health policy.

Crocante Restaurant on East Colonial Drive matched that count with nine of its own: food from unapproved sources, food not cooked to minimum temperature, no consumer advisory, no employee health policy, employees not reporting illness, improper handwashing technique, food contact surfaces not sanitized, and time-as-a-public-health-control not properly used.

Sushi Hut Grill and Bar on Universal Boulevard also reached nine high-severity violations. Inspectors found parasite destruction procedures not followed, food from unapproved sources, no consumer advisory, no employee health policy, employees not reporting illness, improper handwashing, food contact surfaces not sanitized, and time-as-a-public-health-control not properly used. The restaurant had zero intermediate violations cited alongside its nine high-severity findings.

Zen Dumpling on North Alafaya Trail drew eight high-severity violations, including inadequate handwashing facilities, toxic chemicals improperly stored, no allergen awareness demonstrated, inadequate shellfish traceability, food not cooked to minimum temperature, food contact surfaces not sanitized, no consumer advisory, and improper handwashing technique.

Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House on International Drive also reached eight high-severity violations. Inspectors cited the person in charge not performing duties, an employee not reporting illness symptoms, parasite destruction procedures not followed, food not cooked to minimum temperature, inadequate shellfish records, improper handwashing, toxic substances improperly identified or used, and time-as-a-public-health-control not properly used. No intermediate violations accompanied the eight high-severity findings.

Chimi Spot on South Goldenrod Road also reached seven high-severity violations: no employee health policy, food from unapproved sources, improper handwashing technique, required procedures for specialized processes not followed, food not cooked to minimum temperature, food contact surfaces not sanitized, and no consumer advisory. Inspectors also noted improper sewage or wastewater disposal as an intermediate violation.

Gators Dockside on New Broad Street was cited for seven high-severity violations, including an employee not reporting illness symptoms, food from unapproved sources, food not cooked to minimum temperature, toxic chemicals improperly stored, food contact surfaces not sanitized, time-as-a-public-health-control not properly used, and no consumer advisory. YH Seafood Clubhouse on Turkey Lake Road drew two high-severity violations: the person in charge was not present or not performing duties, and food contact surfaces were not properly cleaned or sanitized.

What These Violations Mean

Food from unapproved or unknown sources appeared at nine of the fifteen facilities cited this week, including Baires Grill, Nikki's Place, China Garden, Crocante Restaurant, Sushi Hut Grill and Bar, Outback Steakhouse, Lotus Garden, Mama Lau and OC LLC, Chimi Spot, and Gators Dockside. When food bypasses USDA and FDA inspection channels, there is no traceability if a customer gets sick. If Listeria or Salmonella appears in that supply, investigators cannot trace it back to the source, cannot issue a recall, and cannot stop other customers from being exposed.

Parasite destruction procedures not followed is a different category of risk. It appeared at Baires Grill, Nikki's Place, Sushi Hut Grill and Bar, and Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House. Parasites like Anisakis in fish and Trichinella in pork survive if food is not frozen to specific temperatures for specific durations before being served raw or undercooked. At a sushi operation like Sushi Hut, that gap between procedure and practice is a direct exposure pathway.

No written employee health policy and employees not reporting illness symptoms are two sides of the same problem. Without a policy, workers have no formal guidance on when to stay home. Without reporting, an employee sick with Norovirus continues handling food. Both violations appeared together at Baires Grill, Nikki's Place, China Garden, Crocante Restaurant, Sushi Hut Grill and Bar, Outback Steakhouse, Hi 5 Yummy, and Chimi Spot this week. Norovirus spreads through fecal-oral contact and can incapacitate customers within 12 to 48 hours of exposure.

Toxic chemicals improperly stored appeared at China Garden, Zen Dumpling, Outback Steakhouse, Lotus Garden, Hi 5 Yummy, Mama Lau and OC LLC, Chimi Spot, and Gators Dockside. Chemical contamination from mislabeled or improperly placed cleaning products can cause acute poisoning without any visible sign that food has been affected.

The Longer Record

China Garden on West Colonial Drive carries the longest inspection history of any facility cited this week: 70 prior inspections on record. Nine high-severity violations on its most recent visit, across food sourcing, handwashing, shellfish records, toxic storage, and illness reporting, represent a pattern across a facility that has been inspected more than any other on this list by a wide margin.

Mama Lau and OC LLC has 32 prior inspections on record and drew seven high-severity violations this week, including citations for specialized process failures and unapproved food sources. Chimi Spot has 30 prior inspections and reached seven high-severity violations including sewage disposal concerns. Saltgrass Steak House has 29 prior inspections and Outback Steakhouse has 28, both chain locations with histories long enough that the violations documented this week cannot be attributed to inexperience.

Zen Dumpling on North Alafaya Trail has 38 prior inspections on record and still drew eight high-severity violations this week, including a citation for inadequate handwashing facilities and no allergen awareness demonstrated. Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House has 24 prior inspections and was cited for the person in charge not performing duties alongside seven other high-severity findings.

Baires Grill, by contrast, has only two prior inspections on record and already carries a 10-count high-severity total, including food from unapproved sources and parasite destruction failures. Hi 5 Yummy has four prior inspections and drew six high-severity violations including inadequate handwashing and food not cooked to minimum temperature. Both restaurants are early in their inspection histories. Baires Grill's count at inspection two already matches the worst single-week totals recorded by facilities with decades of visits behind them.

Nikki's Place has 22 prior inspections and has now been cited for food from unapproved sources, shellfish traceability failures, and no consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods. The shellfish traceability violation means that if a customer at Nikki's Place became ill from raw oysters or clams this week, there would be no tag record to identify where those shellfish came from or whether other batches from the same harvest remain in circulation.
