MIAMI, FL. Rinconcito Latino Mixto on NW 10th Avenue had no person in charge present when state inspectors arrived last week, no employee health policy on file, inadequate handwashing facilities, and food sourced from unapproved suppliers with no traceability, all in a single visit that produced 12 high-severity violations and 5 intermediate ones.
That was the worst citation count of the week, but it was not an outlier. Fifteen Miami-area restaurants drew high-severity violations between August 20 and August 26, 2026. Two were emergency-closed before the week was out.

What These Violations Mean
The most common high-severity violation this week, appearing at 12 of the 15 facilities, was food contact surfaces not properly cleaned or sanitized. Cutting boards, prep tables, and utensils that are not adequately sanitized between uses transfer bacteria directly from one food item to the next. Rinconcito Latino Mixto, 100 Montaditos Midtown, AC Hotel Miami Midtown, Di Napoli, Toro Toro, Budare Bistro, Friends Market and Bistro, Ichimi, Brickell City Pizza, Black Market Miami, Aiko and Mumu, and Pisco y Nazca Ceviche Gastrobar all drew this citation.
Food from unapproved or unknown sources was cited at seven facilities this week, including Rinconcito Latino Mixto, 100 Montaditos Midtown, AC Hotel Miami Midtown, Di Napoli, Toro Toro, Budare Bistro, Friends Market and Bistro, and Black Market Miami. When food bypasses USDA or FDA inspections, there is no chain of custody. If a customer becomes ill, investigators cannot trace the product back to its origin.
Several facilities this week, including Cafe Panisse, Toro Toro, and Real Food Academy, were cited for not following parasite destruction procedures for fish. Raw or undercooked fish that has not been properly frozen can harbor Anisakis worms and tapeworms. Cafe Panisse was also cited for food contaminated by chemical, physical, or biological hazards, the most acute adulteration finding of the week.
Toxic chemical storage violations appeared at five facilities: Ichimi, Brickell City Pizza, Nueva San Salvador Restaurant, Real Food Academy, and Aiko and Mumu. Real Food Academy was the only facility cited for two distinct toxic substance violations in the same visit, covering both improper storage and improper identification and use.
The Longer Record
Di Napoli has 32 prior inspections on record, the most of any facility featured this week. Its 11 high-severity violations this week, including food from unapproved sources and food not cooked to required temperature, come against the backdrop of a facility that has been inspected more than three dozen times total.
Nueva San Salvador Restaurant has 31 prior inspections on record and drew 4 high-severity violations this week. Rinconcito Latino Mixto has 29 prior inspections on record and produced the week's highest violation count, 12 high-severity citations, at a facility that is no stranger to state scrutiny.
Cafe Panisse also carries 29 prior inspections and matched that 12-violation count. Ichimi has 28 prior inspections on record. Budare Bistro and Brickell City Pizza each have 27 prior inspections on record.
At the other end of the history spectrum, 100 Montaditos Midtown has only 12 prior inspections on record and already accumulated 12 high-severity violations in a single visit. AC Hotel Miami Midtown has 14 prior inspections on record and reached the same count. Real Food Academy also has 14 prior inspections and drew 8 high-severity violations including two separate toxic substance citations. These are not facilities with long records of accumulating problems. They are relatively new to the inspection cycle and already drawing some of the most serious findings of the week.
Toro Toro at 100 Chopin Plaza has 24 prior inspections on record. Its 11 high-severity violations this week included parasite destruction failures and food from unapproved sources, categories that require deliberate procedural decisions, not oversights that happen in a single shift.
