FORT MYERS, FL. Clase Azul of Estero on Gulf Coast Main Street was emergency-closed by state inspectors on August 13 for roach and fly activity, one of 15 Fort Myers restaurants cited for high-severity violations during the week of August 12 through 18, 2026.

The closure at Clase Azul came alongside five other high-priority citations at the same facility, including toxic substances improperly stored, food in poor condition, and a person in charge not present or not performing duties. Inspectors also documented improper sewage or wastewater disposal, multi-use utensils not properly cleaned, and single-use items being reused.

Xixi Hibachi and Sushi on Gladiolus Drive led the week with 10 high-severity violations, the most of any facility inspected. Inspectors cited the restaurant for no employee health policy, employees not reporting illness symptoms, improper handwashing technique, inadequate shell stock identification, parasite destruction procedures not followed, food not cooked to required minimum temperature, time as a public health control not properly used, and no consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods.

Xixi also had no consumer advisory posted for raw or undercooked items, a critical gap at a sushi and hibachi restaurant where customers routinely order raw fish. The facility has only three prior inspections on record.

Tung Hing Chinese Restaurant on Fowler Street drew eight high-severity citations. Inspectors documented no employee health policy, an employee not reporting illness symptoms, improper handwashing technique, food in poor condition, food contact surfaces not properly cleaned or sanitized, food not cooked to required minimum temperature, toxic substances improperly stored, and no allergen awareness demonstrated.

That last citation, no allergen awareness, appeared at four other facilities this week: Xixi Hibachi and Sushi, Snappers Comedy Club, Jax Diner, Wicked Good Deli, Chef Roland's Delight, Cafe In, and Blazewing Spot.

Snappers Comedy Club on College Parkway accumulated seven high-severity violations and one intermediate citation for improper sewage or wastewater disposal. Inspectors also found inadequate handwashing facilities, no shell stock identification records, parasite destruction procedures not followed, food contact surfaces not properly cleaned, no consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods, and no allergen awareness.

Cafe In on Cleveland Avenue matched Snappers with seven high-severity citations, including food from an unapproved or unknown source. No person in charge was present or performing duties. Inspectors also noted no employee health policy, employees not reporting illness symptoms, food in poor condition, inadequate shell stock identification, and no allergen awareness.

Blazewing Spot on Fowler Street was cited for six high-severity violations, including food from an unapproved or unknown source and a person in charge not present. Inspectors documented employees not reporting illness symptoms, improper handwashing technique, no consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods, and no allergen awareness. The facility was also cited for single-use items being improperly reused and wiping cloths improperly used.

Jax Diner on Tamiami Trail North drew five high-severity violations: inadequate shell stock identification, parasite destruction procedures not followed, food contact surfaces not properly cleaned, no consumer advisory, and no allergen awareness. An intermediate citation for improper sewage or wastewater disposal rounded out the report.

Wicked Good Deli on Metro Parkway was cited for four high-severity violations, including parasite destruction procedures not followed and food contact surfaces not properly cleaned. Inspectors also noted improper handwashing technique and no allergen awareness, along with intermediate violations for inadequate cooling equipment and improperly used wiping cloths.

Chef Roland's Delight on Beacon Boulevard received four high-severity violations, including food from an unapproved or unknown source and food contact surfaces not properly cleaned. Improper handwashing technique and no allergen awareness were also cited, alongside intermediate violations for improper sewage disposal and inadequate ventilation.

Mizuki Japanese Cuisine on Alico Mission Way was cited for four high-severity violations: an employee not reporting illness symptoms, food from an unapproved or unknown source, food contact surfaces not properly cleaned, and time as a public health control not properly used. Inspectors also noted multi-use utensils not properly cleaned and inadequate toilet facilities.

Sweet Tomatoes on South Tamiami Trail drew four high-severity violations, including no person in charge, no employee health policy, food not cooked to required minimum temperature, and no consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods. The facility also had intermediate citations for improper sewage disposal and inadequate cooling equipment.

Headpinz Fort Myers on Global Parkway was cited for food not cooked to required minimum temperature and no consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods. Miller's Fort Myers Ale House on Kernel Circle drew two high-severity citations for parasite destruction procedures not followed and food contact surfaces not properly cleaned.

Carrabba's Italian Grill on Cleveland Avenue received one high-severity citation for food contact surfaces not properly cleaned. Logan's Roadhouse on South Cleveland Avenue had no high-severity violations, drawing only two intermediate citations for sewage disposal and ventilation.

What These Violations Mean

The single most common thread running through this week's inspections was the combination of no employee health policy and employees not reporting illness symptoms, cited together at Tung Hing Chinese Restaurant, Xixi Hibachi and Sushi, Cafe In, Blazewing Spot, Mizuki Japanese Cuisine, and Sweet Tomatoes. Those two violations together describe a workplace where a sick cook has no formal obligation to stay home and no system requiring it. Norovirus, which causes the majority of foodborne illness outbreaks in restaurant settings, spreads through exactly this gap: one infected employee handling food can expose dozens of customers before anyone realizes there is a problem.

Parasite destruction procedures not followed appeared at five facilities this week: Xixi Hibachi and Sushi, Snappers Comedy Club, Jax Diner, Wicked Good Deli, and Miller's Fort Myers Ale House. At a sushi restaurant or any establishment serving raw or lightly cooked fish, this violation means the fish being served was not frozen to the temperatures and timeframes required to kill parasites like Anisakis, which can embed in the stomach lining and require surgical removal. The consumer advisory violation, found at seven facilities this week, compounds this directly: customers ordering raw fish at Xixi Hibachi, Snappers, Blazewing Spot, Jax Diner, Headpinz, Clase Azul, and Sweet Tomatoes were not warned of the risk.

Food from unapproved or unknown sources was cited at Cafe In, Blazewing Spot, Chef Roland's Delight, and Mizuki Japanese Cuisine. This violation matters because food that enters a kitchen outside of licensed, inspected supply chains carries no traceability. If a customer gets sick, investigators cannot trace the product back to its origin, cannot identify a contaminated lot, and cannot issue a recall. It is the violation that makes outbreaks harder to contain after they start.

The Longer Record

Two facilities at the top of this week's violation counts have the thinnest inspection histories, and that combination is notable. Xixi Hibachi and Sushi, which led the week with 10 high-severity violations, has only three prior inspections on record. Sweet Tomatoes has only two. A new facility accumulating serious violations in its first few inspections, including undercooking, no health policy, and no person in charge, has not yet established a pattern of correction.

The opposite is true at several facilities with long records and persistent problems. Headpinz Fort Myers has 37 prior inspections on record, and this week's report still showed food not cooked to required minimum temperature. Clase Azul of Estero also has 37 prior inspections and was emergency-closed this week for pest activity. Miller's Fort Myers Ale House has 32 prior inspections and drew a citation this week for parasite destruction procedures not followed. Tung Hing Chinese Restaurant has 33 prior inspections and was cited for eight high-severity violations, including undercooking and toxic substance storage.

Jax Diner and Chef Roland's Delight each have 30 prior inspections on record. Both were cited this week for food contact surfaces not properly cleaned and sanitized. Wicked Good Deli, with 28 prior inspections, drew the same citation alongside a parasite destruction failure. The food contact surface violation appeared at nine of the 15 facilities inspected this week, making it the most common high-severity finding across the entire roundup.

Cafe In, with 17 prior inspections, was cited for food from an unapproved source and no person in charge. Blazewing Spot, with 23 prior inspections, drew the same two violations. Both facilities on Fowler Street or nearby corridors share a pattern of management absence and unverified supply chains that prior inspections have not resolved.

As of the close of the inspection week, Clase Azul of Estero's reopening status had not been confirmed in state records.
