BRADENTON, FL. An employee at Danny's Pizzeria on Manatee Avenue West was found not reporting symptoms of illness during a September 22 state inspection, a violation that health officials classify as the single leading cause of multi-victim foodborne outbreaks.
That was one of six high-severity violations documented at the 7220 Manatee Ave W location that day. The restaurant was not closed.
What Inspectors Found
The inspector documented food not cooked to the required minimum temperature, a violation that means food was served to customers without reaching the heat threshold necessary to kill pathogens like Salmonella. In poultry, that threshold is 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
Toxic chemicals were found improperly stored or labeled near food areas. That citation sits alongside a finding that no allergen awareness was demonstrated by staff, a gap that affects every customer with a food allergy who walks through the door.
Inspectors also cited improper handwashing technique. That is a distinct violation from simply not washing hands. It means employees made an attempt but did so incorrectly, leaving pathogens on their hands before touching food or surfaces.
The restaurant had no consumer advisory posted for raw or undercooked foods, meaning customers with compromised immune systems, elderly diners, pregnant women, and young children had no way to know they were ordering something that carried elevated risk.
Four intermediate violations rounded out the inspection: multi-use utensils not properly cleaned, improper use of wiping cloths, inadequate ventilation and lighting, and inadequate or improperly maintained toilet facilities.
What These Violations Mean
The illness-reporting violation is the one that most directly threatens people who never even ate at Danny's. When a sick food worker handles ingredients without disclosure, they can contaminate food before any other safeguard has a chance to intervene. Norovirus, one of the most common culprits in restaurant outbreaks, spreads through exactly this route, and a single infected employee can sicken dozens of customers in a single shift.
The undercooking violation compounds that risk. If food is not reaching safe internal temperatures, bacteria that would otherwise be destroyed survive and reach the customer's plate. Paired with a kitchen where handwashing technique is also flagged as deficient, the contamination pathways multiply.
The allergen awareness violation is its own category of danger. Food allergies affect 32 million Americans, and allergic reactions send roughly 30,000 people to emergency rooms each year. When staff cannot demonstrate awareness of allergens in the dishes they are serving, a customer with a peanut or shellfish allergy has no reliable way to assess their risk.
Improperly stored or labeled toxic chemicals near food areas introduce a separate and acute hazard. Mislabeled chemicals can be mistaken for food-safe products. Chemicals stored too close to food preparation surfaces can contaminate ingredients through spills or aerosol drift.
The Longer Record
The September 22 inspection was not an anomaly. State records show Danny's Pizzeria has been inspected 30 times, accumulating 295 total violations across that history.
The pattern in recent years is consistent. In February 2026, inspectors found 5 high-severity and 2 intermediate violations. In August 2025, the tally was 4 high and 2 intermediate. In February 2025, a single-day inspection logged 6 high and 4 intermediate violations, a count that matches the September 22 findings exactly.
In August 2023, a single inspection produced 9 high-severity and 6 intermediate violations, the worst single-visit count in the available record. A follow-up the next day, August 10, showed the numbers drop sharply to 1 high and 1 intermediate, suggesting the restaurant can meet standards when pressed.
The facility has never been emergency-closed in its 30 inspections on record.
