FLORIDA. A single Miami restaurant was emergency-closed Monday for rodent activity, roach activity, and fly activity all at once, leading a week in which state inspectors forced 32 Florida restaurants to shut their doors between August 25 and August 31, 2026.
The Week's Worst
Club De La Milanesa at 3250 NE 1 Ave in Miami was shuttered Monday after inspectors documented rodents, roaches, and flies all on the same visit. It is the only closure this week where all three pest categories appear simultaneously in the state record. The restaurant cleared inspectors and reopened the same day at 11:24 a.m.
Just a few blocks away in the same Miami building, Ichimi at 3250 NE 1 Ave was also closed Tuesday, that time for rodent activity alone. Two restaurants in the same complex, both shuttered within 24 hours of each other.
Hocca at 8001 S Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando was closed Tuesday for both rodent and fly activity. Unlike most closures this week, the state record shows no reopening time for Hocca, meaning inspectors had not cleared it as of the data available for this report.
The same gap appears for Delicias Centro Americanas 3 at 100A S State St in Bunnell, closed Wednesday for roach activity with no documented reopening time in the state record.
Chains, Beach Bars, and a Sewage Surprise
The week's closures were not limited to independent restaurants. Church's Chicken #10465 at 3007 Edgewood Ave W in Jacksonville was closed Thursday for roach activity and cleared by 8:33 a.m. KFC at 7107 W McNab Rd in North Lauderdale was also shuttered Tuesday for roaches, reopening by 9:24 a.m.
Wendy's at 202 Corey Pl in Lake City was closed Tuesday for fly activity, one of four fly-related closures this week. It did not reopen until 4:39 p.m., the latest reopening of any closure that day.
The week's only non-pest closure came in Tallahassee. Cava at 1919 W Tennessee St was ordered shut Wednesday due to a sewage backup. It was cleared and reopened by 4:36 p.m.
Key West saw three closures in a single day on Monday. Tin Cup Chalice at 2001 S Roosevelt Blvd was shuttered for roach activity and reopened by 10:15 a.m. Ocean Grill at 1075 Duval St was also closed for roaches and cleared by 1:10 p.m. Hurricane Hole at 5130 Overseas Hwy was closed for rodent activity and reopened by 9:32 a.m.
St. Augustine had three closures across two consecutive days. Thai Street Cafe at 140 San Marco Ave and Farmhand Kchn at 1280A N Ponce De Leon Blvd were both shut Thursday for rodent activity, reopening at 9:01 a.m. and 8:01 a.m. respectively. The day before, South A Philly Steaks and Hoagies at 1 King St was closed for roach activity and cleared by 9:58 a.m.
Senor Frogs at 400 Quietwater Beach Rd on Pensacola Beach was closed Thursday for roach activity. It did not reopen until 6:46 p.m., the latest reopening time documented for any closure this week.
Grain and Berry at 2784 E Fowler Ave in Tampa was closed Monday for both roach and fly activity, and cleared by 9:36 a.m.
Giardino Gourmet Salads at 11624 SW 88 St in Miami was shuttered Wednesday for fly activity and reopened by 8:07 a.m., the fastest fly-related turnaround of the week. Joanna's Marketplace at 8247 S Dixie Hwy in Miami was also closed Monday for fly activity, reopening by 8:20 a.m.
Miami finished the week with four total closures, more than any other city.
What These Violations Mean
Thirty-one of this week's 32 closures were triggered by pest activity, and that category covers three distinct threats: rodents, roaches, and flies. Each carries a different transmission risk, but none of them is cosmetic.
Rodents contaminate food surfaces, packaging, and equipment with urine, droppings, and fur. Rodent urine in particular is a transmission route for leptospirosis, salmonella, and hantavirus. When inspectors close a restaurant for rodent activity, they have found physical evidence, such as droppings, gnaw marks, or live animals, not just a theoretical risk. Fourteen of this week's closures were rodent-related, including facilities in Miami, Jacksonville, Boca Raton, St. Augustine, and Lynn Haven.
Roach activity is a direct food contamination vector. Cockroaches carry pathogens including E. coli and salmonella on their legs and bodies, and they move between sewage, garbage, and food prep surfaces without distinction. Seventeen closures this week involved roach activity, from Church's Chicken in Jacksonville to Cedar Grill in Clermont to the Waffle Shoppe in Panama City.
Fly activity may seem less alarming than rodents or roaches, but flies transfer bacteria mechanically, landing on raw food, open prep surfaces, and finished dishes within seconds of landing on waste or organic material. Four closures this week were fly-related, including Wendy's in Lake City and Giardino Gourmet Salads in Miami. Club De La Milanesa and Grain and Berry each combined fly activity with at least one other pest category, which inspectors treat as compounding evidence of a facility-wide sanitation failure rather than an isolated incident.
The sewage backup at Cava in Tallahassee represents a separate but acute hazard. Raw sewage introduces fecal coliform bacteria directly into a kitchen environment, and state rules require immediate closure any time sewage is present in areas where food is stored, prepared, or served.
The Longer Record
Several of this week's closures involve facilities with substantial inspection histories, which means inspectors had visited these kitchens many times before the closure order arrived.
The two Boca Raton closures illustrate the range. Taj Express Indian Cuisine at 1320 NW Boca Raton Blvd was closed Tuesday for rodent activity. Miyi La Cubanita Cuban Cafe at 1332 NW 2 Ave was also shuttered Tuesday for rodent activity, reopening at 9:58 a.m. Both facilities carry inspection histories in the state database, and a rodent closure in either case means the pest problem was serious enough to cross the threshold for emergency action.
Original Pinehurst Pub at 1422 Pinehurst Rd in Dunedin was closed Monday for rodent activity and cleared by 11:28 a.m. Thai Chilli Pepper at 228 Oakfield Dr in Brandon was also closed Monday for roach activity and reopened by 9:29 a.m.
Arabellas Ristorante at 346 W Central Ave in Winter Haven was closed Tuesday for rodent activity and cleared by 8:56 a.m. Oniku Hibachi at 4125 9 St SW in Vero Beach was shuttered Tuesday for roach activity and reopened by 9:07 a.m.
Red Star Chinese One Inc at 1219 Ohio Ave in Lynn Haven was closed Tuesday for rodent activity and cleared by 10:23 a.m. Falafel King at 3252 SW 35 Blvd in Gainesville was shuttered Wednesday for roach activity and reopened by 11:04 a.m. Cedar Grill at 2407 S Hwy 27 in Clermont was closed Wednesday for roach activity and cleared by 3:46 p.m.
Sweet Mama's at 1527 Cesery Blvd in Jacksonville was shuttered Tuesday for rodent activity and reopened by 9:58 a.m. Siri's Gourmet Burgers and Pizza at 2813 Beach Blvd in Gulf Port was closed Monday for roach activity and cleared by 10:03 a.m. D R Deli and Restaurant at 7942 Via Lampione in Delray Beach was shuttered Tuesday for roach activity and reopened by 8:23 a.m.
As of the data available for this report, Hocca in Orlando and Delicias Centro Americanas 3 in Bunnell had not posted reopening times in the state record.
