OKALOOSA COUNTY, FL. A Crestview movie theater was cited for storing toxic chemicals improperly and failing to demonstrate any allergen awareness during the week of July 16, the most serious findings in a round of 24 inspections across 23 Okaloosa County food service facilities.
The Week's Worst Findings
Marquis Cinema 10 on Richburg Lane in Crestview accumulated five violations in total, two of them high-severity. State inspectors documented toxic chemicals that were improperly stored or labeled, a violation that puts food directly at risk of chemical contamination, and found no evidence that staff had received allergen awareness training.
Three intermediate violations accompanied those findings. Inspectors cited improper sewage or wastewater disposal, inadequate ventilation and lighting, and equipment in poor repair or condition. That combination, a chemical hazard, a sewage issue, and failing equipment, in a facility that serves food to families attending movies, made it the county's most cited location for the week.
Miller's Destin Ale House on Emerald Coast Parkway in Destin drew the county's other pair of high-severity violations. Inspectors found that an employee was not reporting symptoms of illness, and that the restaurant lacked a consumer advisory for raw or undercooked foods on its menu.
Two intermediate violations rounded out the Ale House's inspection report: single-use items being improperly reused, and inadequate ventilation and lighting. The employee illness reporting violation, in particular, places this location among the higher-risk findings of the week.
What These Violations Mean
The two high-severity violations at Marquis Cinema 10 represent distinct but serious hazard categories. Improperly stored or unlabeled toxic chemicals create a direct contamination pathway: if a chemical container is mislabeled or placed near food preparation surfaces or food storage, a single mistake by an employee can result in acute poisoning. This is not a theoretical risk. Mislabeling is among the most common causes of chemical contamination incidents in food service environments.

The Pattern Across the County
Two facilities out of 23 drew multiple high-severity violations this week, meaning roughly nine percent of inspected locations cleared the threshold for the most serious citation category. The remaining facilities were not cited at that level, though the data does not indicate that all passed without any violations.
Ventilation and lighting deficiencies appeared at both of the week's worst performers, Marquis Cinema 10 and Miller's Destin Ale House, making it the only violation type shared between the two locations. Inadequate ventilation in food service environments allows grease-laden vapors and carbon monoxide to accumulate, degrades air quality for workers and customers, and can mask odor indicators that would otherwise signal spoilage or sanitation failures.
The single-use item reuse citation at the Ale House is a subtler finding but not a trivial one.
